The Trauma Unit
Coordinator- Joel Comet, Ph.D.
This unit works with the effects of severe trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, using an eclectic approach, such as cognitive-behavioral techniques and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). We combine these with our understanding of the effects of trauma on the whole family system. Eight of our senior staff members have advanced training in EMDR, a powerful method of treatment that can reduce the intensity of disturbing thoughts.
The designated population are people who have experienced a single trauma, such as a terrorist attack, car accident, mugging, date rape, etc. Treatment is done with victims on an individual basis and/or within the family context. The Trauma Unit has helped close to 150 trauma victims since its inception in January 2000.
The unit's staff consists of Anita Bardin, Joel Comet, Ruth Eisenman, Anat Goldtstein, Debby Porten, Mel Tal and Dvora Vortman.
